The holy festival of Durga Puja, also called as Durgotsava, originated in the soil of the Indian subcontinent is an annual Hindu festival paying homage to the Hindu Goddess Durga. It is celebrated in the Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Tripura, and Odisha, the country of Bangladesh, and in Nepal. It is celebrated in the months of September – October every year. The enchanting prayers during the festivity of Durga Puja echoes in the winds of homes and in public. The deity Goddess Durga features in temporary stages with structural decorations known as pandals while all the devotees summons her blessings during the festival time. The beauty of this festival is earmarked by performing arts celebrating in public irrespective of any caste and religion and gifting each other with friends and families. Durga Puja is a very important holistic festival where all indigenous people across the regions involved in the festivities. This festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga in her battle against the shape-changing devil, Mahisasura and hence this festival epitomizes the victory of good over evil. Durga Puja is celebrated succeeding Navaratri and Dussehra. Dussehra is celebrated by burning the idol of Ravana which epitomizes Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana. In this festival, Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge and music, Lord Ganesha, God of good beginnings, and Lord Kartikeya, God of war, these deities are also worshiped as Devi Durga’s children.  It is believed that the holy festival of Durga puja is actually commensurate to Devi Durga’s visit to her natal home with her own children. By all means, the festivity of Durga Puja is a testimony of our widespread Indian culture irrespective of caste and religion.
